Garland Encyclopedia of World Music is a reference source devoted to music of all the world’s peoples. More than 22,000 pages of material and 300 audio recordings, combined with entries by more than 700 expert contributors from all over the world, make this the most complete body of work focused on world music. Garland Encyclopedia is divided into 10 volumes. The first 9 volumes focus on the music of different geographic regions, and each has an accompanying digitized audio CD. Volume 10 contains general perspectives on ethnomusicology, a reference tool list, a glossary, and the index. Garland Encyclopedia can also be cross-searched with other Alexander Street music resources through the Music Online interface.

This is the online edition of the 1st edition of the The Garland Encyclopedia of World Music, which began publication in print in 1997 and was completed in 2001.
