New York Academy of Sciences
This database contains the complete digitized archive of the New York Academy of Sciences. The Academy, founded in 1817, is one of the oldest scientific organizations in the United States, and its papers constitute a record of the progress of science over two centuries. Materials in the archive are related to a wide range of scientific and ancillary disciplines, including botany, chemistry, physics, medicine, ecology, and science education.
Content types are manuscripts, maps, and photographs. Subtypes include administrative records, correspondence, personal papers, proceedings and reports, pamphlets, periodicals, and monographs. The database allows basic and advanced full text searching through the entire archive of the Academy. The Collections option displays a traditional finding aid, outlining the archive’s constituent collections and allowing one to browse at the collection, box, and folder level.
