When Nicholas Allred, Graduate Specialist at New Brunswick Libraries (NBL) and Doctoral Student at the English Department, was notified in early April that he had received the Harvey Waterman Medal of Excellence, he didn’t know that it was just a start. The prestigious medal is awarded by the School of Graduate Studies to graduate students for their exceptional scholarly achievements across the humanities, sciences, and social sciences.
Along with William Bejarano, PhD Candidate, School of Communication & Information, Nick was also the recipient of the 2022 Center of Alcohol & Substance Use Studies (CAS) Recognition Award. The award was presented by Dr. Denise Hien, CAS Director and Vice Provost of Research for Rutgers University-New Brunswick, at the CAS Annual Scholar Poster Session on Thursday, April 11.
The CAS recognition highlights their efforts and contributions to the Digital Alcohol Studies Archives built on Rutgers University Libraries platforms from the digital artifacts and remnants of the defunct Alcohol Studies Library and Archives. Chronicling the birth of alcohol science as it evolved at Yale and Rutgers, the project aims to preserve an important phase in the history of science.
The NBL-CAS joint project is led by Dr. Judit H. Ward, librarian and liaison to CAS.
