Dana Library Welcomes Amanda Clay Powers

Amanda Clay Powers has been selected as the Associate University Librarian for Rutgers University–Newark and began serving in this role at the John Cotton Dana Library on January 13, 2025. Powers brings to Rutgers University Libraries deep experience in fundraising, change management, serving diverse campus populations, and providing strategic direction for collections, technology, and services. She has served on numerous national and statewide advisory boards.   See the news story.

Institute of Jazz Studies

The Institute of Jazz Studies is the world's foremost  jazz archives and research library. Founded in 1952 by pioneer jazz scholar Marshall Stearns (1908-1966), the Institute has been a pioneering institution in the preservation an access of jazz heritage. IJS relocated from Stearns' apartment to Rutgers University–Newark in 1966, and it part of the Rutgers University Libraries. In 1994, IJS moved to spacious new quarters on the fourth floor of the John Cotton Dana Library at Rutgers–Newark. The Institute serves a broad clientele, including teachers, scholars, musicians, the media, record companies, filmmakers, and arts agencies.

Rutgers University–Newark Archives

For decades, dedicated librarians at John Cotton Dana Library collected and stewarded archival materials which were generated and compiled by the Rutgers—Newark campus community.  The Rutgers University—Newark Archives was formally established in 2019 and documents the legacies of the Rutgers—Newark campus and its impact as an anchor institution in the city of Newark.
