Mobile Apps

A number of our subscription resources have associated mobile apps. Some have specific instructions in order to associate your account with access through the libraries. 

Access by McGraw-Hill

AccessMedicine is a collection of over 100 key medical reference texts that provide authoritative and current medical data. Textbooks are updated continuously with new medical information, and the collection is regularly updated with the most recent edition of each textbook. AccessMedicine also includes medical news, quick reference tools and diagnostic tests, infographics, drug information (including dosages, trade names, and pricing), multimedia presentations and video, cases with practice questions, study tools, and patient education information.  

Follow these steps to download the app:

  1. Create an active Access account*
  2. Create a profile on the library AccessMedicine database in the upper right-hand corner
  3. Visit the App Store or Google Play
  4. Download the Access by McGraw-Hill app
  5. Log in using the username and password information previously created for your Access Profile

BrowZine

BrowZine is a platform that enables users to browse, read, and manage scholarly journals across various disciplines. It offers a user-friendly interface, allowing for easy navigation through journal content*.  Use Browzine to (a) browse current issues of scholarly journals on any device, (b) follow your favorite titles and get notifications when new issues are published, (c) access articles still in press, (d) save articles for offline reading,
(e) export references to citation managers such as RefWorks, EndNote, and Zotero.

To download the app:

  1. Visit the App Store or Google Play
  2. Download the Browzine app
  3. Follow the prompts*

ClinicalKey

ClinicalKey provides current information to clinical health care providers via an aggregated content service. It provides full-text access to over 500 Elsevier journals and 1,000 e-books. Additionally, it includes clinical overviews, clinical trials, drug monographs, clinical guidelines, patient education handouts, images & multimedia, procedure videos, clinical calculators, and indexing and abstracts from the National Library of Medicine’s MEDLINE database.

To download the app:

  1. Register for a user account by going to https://www.clinicalkey.com
  2. Click on Register at the upper right corner and fill out the form on the registration page using your Rutgers email address
  3. Click Register when finished
  4. Visit the App Store or Google Play
  5. Download the ClinicalKey app 
  6. Select Organizational Subscription and then ClinicalKey

DynaMed

DynaMed is a just-in-time clinical reference tool integrating evidence-based medicine with practical information for clinical practice on more than 3,200 clinical topics. It is designed for physicians, nurses, and other health professionals. It includes clinical decision rules, practice guidelines, calculators, and links to full-text articles indexed by the National Library of Medicine’s (NLM) PubMed.

To download the app:

  1. Create a personal account in DynaMed from the desktop version. Your personal account allows you to use all of DynaMed's personalized features, including CME. Click on the ‘person’ icon on the upper right corner of the DynaMed website.
  2. Sign up for a personal account by filling out all the blanks. You will be prompted to sign in using the login information you just created. Next, click Yes to give your consent for the personal data retention and usage.
  3. Visit the App Store or Google Play
  4. Download the DynaMed app 
  5. Open the app and log into your account

Micromedex

Micromedex is a reference database for evidence-based drug, disease, and toxicology information. Rutgers University Libraries subscribes to the academic version of Micromedex, which also includes Red Book, which provides drug manufacturer and pricing information. Micromedex offers searching by drug, disease, or toxicology.  In addition, the Micromedex Assistant search uses artificial intelligence to produce answers to simple drug reference questions.

To download the app:

  1. Visit the App Store or Google Play
  2. Download the Micromedex (Merative) app
  3. Note the activate code
  4. Follow the link to activate new mobile app on Micromedex online activation page
  5. Enter the code and activate the app.

mobilePDR

PDR: Prescribers’ Digital Reference is a drug information reference source. For each drug, it features a detailed summary, including its classes, boxed warning, description, common brand names, method of supply, dosages and indications, storage, counterindications and precautions, adverse reactions, interactions, method of action, pharmacokinetics, and more. PDR also includes drug communications, which are timely news updates relevant to prescribers, including drug alerts, recalls, and approvals.

To download the app:

  1. Visit the App Store or Google Play
  2. Select the mobilePDR app
  3. Open the app
  4. Note the prompt to create an account

UpToDate

UpToDate is a point-of-care information resource which contains over 10,000 clinical topics representing 25 specialties. In addition to searching the entire resource or viewing Topics by Specialty, there are options to view the newest updates (What's New), Practice Changing Updates, Drug Information, and Patient Education information (which is available in English and Spanish). Other features include standard medical calculators, a drug interactions analysis tool, and an UpToDate for Anki add-on.

To download the app:

  1. Access UpToDate through the Rutgers University Libraries UpToDate page
  2. Register for a personal account
  3. Download the mobile app and log in with your personal account
  4. Install the app on up to two devices*

VisualDX

VisualDX is a diagnostic clinical decision support system designed to be used at the point of care. To get started, type a symptom, medication, or diagnosis in the search box. You can also select “select a problem area” to choose from pre-coordinated scenarios. You can select from a wide variety of options to complete your workup, and then you can view your differential diagnosis.

To download the app:

  1. Go to the VisualDX database and create a personal account (you will see an icon at the lower center of the VisualDX home page)
  2. Visit the App Store or Google Play
  3. Select the VisualDX mobile app
  4. Launch the app from your device and sign in using your username/password previously created
