Eligibility
Current master’s and doctoral students enrolled in graduate programs in New Brunswick are eligible for a one-year contract for a carrel in Douglass Library.
Duration of Carrel Use
Carrel assignments start at the beginning of fall or spring semester and are for one-year period. Requests for an extension of six months may be considered on an individual basis.
Procedures
- Upon assignment, the graduate student will receive an email from Douglass Library staff stating the carrel policy and to come to the Douglass circulation desk to receive the key to the carrel storage.
- At the end of the assignment, the graduate student must remove the contents of the carrel and return the key. Any contents left will be stored for a one-month period. After one-month, the carrel will be considered abandoned. The user will be charged the replacement fee for the key, the carrel will be made available for reassignment, and stored items will be discarded.
- If the Graduate Carrel key is lost or not returned by user when the term of graduate carrel has ended, a $100 replacement fee will be charged to user.
Content Limitation
- We recommend that you do not store valuable personal items in the carrel. While the carrels are safe, they are not impenetrable. The library is not responsible for the loss or theft of stored items.
- Library materials must be checked out to the patron’s library record if stored in the carrel.
- Absolutely no type of non-circulating materials, reserve items, non-circulating government documents, and bound or current journals may be stored in the carrel.
- Storage of perishable food in the carrels is prohibited.
