The Bible in English
The Bible in English is a database of English Bible translations primarily dating from the Medieval and Renaissance periods, including all the most significant texts from Tyndale to the King James Bible, including the Coverdale Bible, Bishops' Bible, and Geneva Bible. In addition to these early translations, it includes some modern translations produced in England. In total, it contains 20 different versions of the English Bible, including 12 full Bibles, five New Testament texts, two versions of the Gospels only, and William Tyndale's translations of the Pentateuch, Jonah, and the New Testament. Bibles in this collection are from both Roman Catholic and Protestant traditions, and the Protestant Bibles include both Church of England and Nonconformist texts.
In addition to full text searching the Biblical texts, the database includes options to search by Bible book, Bible version, testament, or time period. To navigate to a specific Bible, you may also use the Publications menu option.
The database contains the full text in HTML of each work, includes prefatory matter, notes, running heads, and glossaries. It does not include digitized page images. In cases where a Bible translation was reprinted later and new editorial matter was added (Anglo-Saxon and Wycliffe Bibles), that editorial matter is not included.
